I can't believe it's been almost two weeks since my last post. I knew it had been a while... but not that long.

Life has been hectic. The school year always brings on craziness and busy schedules. I have one child doing wrestling conditioning after school, two kids in soccer, one kid in cheer, and one kid getting reading for her first performance in her theater troop. Luckily, I've been able to juggle all of this with little to no stress, and still be able to fit in (semi) healthy dinners and working out. I guess that's where the blogging falls short. I am thankful to have help and a support system this year. Mr. L is really stepping up to the plate. I am grateful, and thankful to not have so much on my shoulders. Life is good.

But I have NOT been losing weight. Probably, because I am NOT really following any eating plan or counting calories. Weight Watcher's was a waste of money. Their database sucks, and even thought I heard that you could scan items in with the app, I don't have that option. So what ended up happening was that I wouldn't track, then just stopped tracking all together. I will probably go back to MFP. I was pretty happy their.

I am still keeping up with regular exercise, though. Still loving my bike. And my new gym is growing on me, but I've only been a few times since my afternoons are so full. So the other morning I had the idea to start getting up earlier (I've been getting up at 5:00 - 5:15 since this summer) and go at 4:30 when they open. I did this on Thursday and it worked out just fine! My nephew even went with me. Now that I have trained my body to get up early (I even get up early on weekends), it's not hard to get up, and I think it will be a good solution for getting gym time in.

I made up my mind about a week ago to use this 3-day weekend to research and plan another course of action for weight loss. I am not giving up, and vow over and over again to keep trying something until it works. Well, I think I've pinpointed a few things that are pointing me to the Paleo diet.

1. I do NOT eat enough fruit/veggies. Even though I try to stay away from processed food, I still end up there.
2. I do NOT eat enough protein (unless you count protein powder, which is processed, and I have not been using that lately).
3. Since I am doing well with menu planning and cooking dinner since school started, it shouldn't be hard to cook Paleo-friendly foods.
4. Even if I can't be 100% Paleo, it will help me eat clean and cut out carbs/sugar... which I still think is part of the puzzle for me. My goal is to be 85% Paleo (since I know I might sneak some cheese in there sometime).
5. I really need to learn to eat veggies. I only like a few vegetables, and don't know how to cook them, either. So today, I decided to go veggie shopping at the farmer's market so I can practice!

My friend, Brooke, has been doing Paleo for a couple of months and loves it. What's not to love, really? It's healthy food. No process. And it's supposed to help with all types of ailments. So who knows? It might help cure something that is keeping me from losing weight. I know I need to eat healthier foods. This is going to be a start. I don't think giving up dairy or grains will kill me. And I need to give up sugar anyway. Seems like a win-win. Wish me luck.

    Earlier this year while in hospital my neuro surgeon spoke to me about Paleo. I had never heard about it prior but when he told me about it I felt like it was the lifestyle I had been wanting to lead. I am slowly trying to clean up the foods I eat and eat more paleo meals.

    I am aiming for 80% clean/paleo meals (eventually).. Its a processs and its hard taking some foods away but I do know I feel better when I am fueling my body with real natural foods.

    I cant wait to hear how you go.

  3. I think Paleo is an awesome way to focus on clean eating :) Can't wait to hear what you think of it. I'm sure your body appreciates what you're doing, even if the scale isn't being favorable to you!

  4. It is really hard to change your lifestyle because you're used to it. However, you can start doing this slowly like you can integrate healthy foods in your diet or you can mix healthy foods that mixes well in your current diet plus choose an exercise that connects with who you are. Motivation + concentration = healthy living. Good luck!

    Weight watchers is amazing.. you didn't like? I have so many friends (including myself) who have lost 50+ lbs and it was only by making tiny changes.

    Ive just started my own weight loss challenge. It's one of the hardest things ive ever done. I guess i just wanted others to talk too.

    How do you deal with will power?? I have no will power and thats my biggest down fall.

  7. I recently started reading your blog, and I LOVE it!

    I haven't gone through everything you've posted - yet - but have you considered going to a nutritionist? I had to go to a few to find a good fit for me, but it's been very helpful in finding ways to make small incremental changes.

    Also, I highly recommend picking up the Forks over Knives cookbook from the library! I'm not vegan/vegetarian, but they have some delicious easy to make recipes!

    It definitely is hard to try and change your lifestyle to a healthier one, but I am sure you will feel good about yourself in the future! Don't ever give up halfway.

  9. Hi, I have never heard of Paleo, but if that's the diet you are choosing to follow then great lets hope its the one that suits you. I decided in May to set my mind to lose some weight and I gave myself a target. I have managed to reach that target and I am still losing....28lbs down now...I also started a website on losing weight and it kept me focused by researching for the topics I was writing about. There are some really interesting things I have found out...I now make sure I take my recommended daily calcium allowance....oh and drink water...water ...and more water...take a look at my site and hopefully you will discover some things you didn't know about that stop us losing weight, and good luck

  10. I started Paleo back in January with a Whole30 challenge ( and never looked back. While I didn't start eating Paleo for weight loss reasons, I can tell you that it HAS changed my body in sooo many good ways! I highly recommend getting Diane Sanfilippo's book Practical Paleo, she lays everything out in a really easy to understand way.

  11. Way to go! I think that Paleo is a really clean way to go. Not sure about you but I always struggle with things to cook. You could check out which is a service that offers shopping lists, meal plans and all of that.

  14. I think you've got the best mindset by not aiming to be 100% paleo. I find people get discouraged when they can't be 100% of whatever diet or lifestyle they're trying to maintain. Good luck!

  15. Yeah, I have some coworkers that tried Weight Watchers and didn't see any results. They then switched to the Paleo diet and love it! One guy lost 20 pounds the first two months.

    I'm in a process where I'm cutting out all carbs and fruit from my weekly diet. I heard this helps jump start the weight loss journey. We'll see how it goes.

  17. I also have made immense changes in my diet that is consistent with the Paleo diet. It amazes me how much energy I have when I eat in a more mindful way to improve my health. After losing over 70 pounds, I thought I could introduce some of the old foods back. Mistake. I found I have to stay away from sugar and wheat. It took me so long to figure out what I could eat, that I wanted to share what I learned in a website at It's a beginning.

  18. It was a doctor's appointment that got me to change my diet in a huge way. It's now more in line with the Paleo diet. I bought the book and then the cookbook as well as some other cookbooks that eliminated or lessened sugar and wheat. It was the sugar that was the hardest to give up. After losing over 70 pounds (@10/month), I wanted to share what I found, so I started a website at It's been a learning experience. If I can help someone with what I've learned, I'll be happy.

  21. Great for you! I have also tried Paleo and it is a great diet however some days it can be very challenging due to how busy my lifestyle is these days. I did not want to just fall of the wagon and gain back all my weight again so I decided to start do the Full Diet by Dr. Snyder and it is FANTASTIC! Using Fullbar I have lost ten more pounds and actually have more energy than I did than on Paleo.

    Found your site recently when I started looking for other bloggers out there with similar fat struggle experiences as myself. I enjoy your candor and honesty in your post and I wish you the best of luck with Paleo.

    Juts a thought about incorporating more veggies into your diet - have you thought of trying green smoothies? I had a similar problem with not eating enough natural fibres and so I began drinking a green smoothie every morning which has really helped. Not to mention it became a meal replacement for me in the morning and since my green smoothies tend to be filled with a bunch of vitamins and minerals, I get a great boost in the morning.

  25. The best weight loss programs are the ones that do not make you go on crazy diets. You will not lose weight if you are uncomfortable with the food you are eating. You will feel stressed about trying to remember what you can and cannot eat. Being stressed will not help you to lose weight. It might even make you gain weight. Thanks a lot...
