First day on Medifast... Success!

I got my Medifast food last night - It was on my doorstep when I got home from class. You would have thought I was a kid on Christmas! I scratched the plan to start on Saturday, and got started today instead. I was just too excited to put it off. And guess what? It was a good day!

I don't want anyone to think this is going to turn into a "medifast" blog, but since this IS what I am doing right NOW, I will talk about it until the "newness" wears off. I did Weight Watcher's the same way, as well as the whole "clean eating" thing. This is a weight loss blog, and whatever I am doing to lose weight will be featured on here. I don't really feel compelled to talk a lot about the Medifast food, though. If you want to know more you can go to the Medifast site, or check out Lyn's blog, Escape from Obesity. She has actually posted pictures of most of the products.

My thoughts about day 1:
- The food is not as bad as I expected. It's actually pretty good! I had maple & brown sugar oatmeal, lemon meringue bar, chicken noodle soup w/ .5 c brocolli added, chili nacho cheese puffs, tuna and 1 c. asparagus for dinner, and a strawberry shake just now to end the day.
- I have not been hungry at all, which floors me. I logged my food and I have consumed a little over 800 calories today! ????? I have eat every 2.5 - 3.5 hours all day! And no hunger?????
- The cravings haven't been so bad either. My co-worker was eating a double cheeseburger at his desk today and I thought I was going to come over that desk and snatch it from him, lol. But other than a brief episode of just "wanting" something, I've been ok!
- No headaches/fatigue that I am blaming on the diet. My daughter left for her school trip today, and I had to get up at 4 a.m. to have her there at 5 a.m. I took a nap when I got home from work today - but I think it's because I went to bed at 1 a.m. and got up at 4 a.m.!
- I have been really thirsty. I am closing out the day at 156 oz. of water! And that's not counting the water that I added to all the Medifast meals.

Bottom line is I feel great! I keep reading all the posts on Facebook from people who are on Medifast and are losing weight and reaching their goals. I really want this to work. I am so ready to finally get this weight off for good! I am excited to see how the next few days goes. I just checked the weather forecast and we are supposed to see sunshine and 60+ degree weather for the next several days! What a treat - Spring break is actually going to feel like SPRING!

The folks at Medifast told me that I need to put a disclaimer on my blog stating that I am getting the Medifast plan for free. They basically offered me the plan at no cost and asked me to blog about it - good or bad.

  1. I'm so glad you had a good first day!!

  2. 800 calories? That's not all you get for the whole day is it? I hope you get more than that.

  3. A tip about preparing soups and the drinks: they are dehydrated foods and thus need some time to rehydrate so they are not lumpy messes. Here is how I prepare some:

    1. Soup. In the morning, boil a kettle of water (or get from the hot water spigot on the office coffee machine). Microwaved water is not hot enough, you need it boiling. Pour the soup packet into a small thermos, add a cup or a bit more of the water, seal, shake and take it to work. By noon, the soup will have heated and thickened and be very tasty and still hot!

    2. Hot drinks. Again, you need boiling water. Pour the packet into a mug and add just a small amount of COLD water first, then stir until it becomes a paste. Fill the mug with hot water and mix together. No dry lumps, I promise! If you just add hot water, there are always lumps swimming at the top. Ugh.

  4. I've been on it for like six weeks. I was super strict this week and really hope to see some significant numbers. I think that in general I just don't lose the way normal people do. Even on MF, I lose like 1-2 lbs per week while others are dropping 5+ per week. I have so much to lose, so you'd think it would melt off week after week.

Good luck! Do you even need MF?

  5. Good luck lady. I'm right here with you - for better and worse!

  6. you go girl - free food - i will keep posted to see how you do - hey medifast - check out my blog - i will blog for food too :)

  7. Hollie, keep up the good work! You so got this!!

  8. I didn't want to put off starting once I got my food either. Its so exciting! 5lbs in the first week.

  9. I just started on Medifast and have been loving the first week. I had the same reaction when my box arrived. My boyfriend was laughing at how excited I got! I also started the next morning instead of waiting for the weekend as planned.
    5lbs in the first week!

  10. I did medifast for 3 1/2 months and lost almost 50lbs! stick with it and you'll see results everyday. Good Luck!

  11. Congratulations, Hollie, and thanks for sharing your success. I've been on Medifast for 4 months and I've gone from 190 pounds to 150 pounds. I'm female, 64, and 5' 4". The Medifast plan works, BUT I found I had to stick with it. It's a high protein, lo carb, diet that puts you into fat burning mode after about 3 days. If I cheated and ate carbs or it would take another 3 days to get back into the fat burning mode. I'm very satisfied with the plan.

  12. Hi Hollie,
I'm glad that I found this. I'm curious to know - how did it go with Medifast? I saw on one of the posts that you're an ambassador for slim fast, so I guess it didn't work all that well for you, but I'd love to hear more. I'm on day 4 (ugh) of medifast, and it's hard! Like you, I'm keeping a blog to keep myself accountable and hopefully successful this time around. My blog is I'd love it if you'd come by as a guest blogger. :-) Thanks! and good luck to all of us!! Cheers! Sandi
