Perfect 10 Challenge

Since the beginning of December, I have been pretty darned focused on this "healthy lifestyle" thing. I went for 90+ days being absolutely sugar-free. I've lost over 50 lbs by being focused on what I eat, how much I eat, and what I don't need to eat. But lately, I've been slipping.

It all started in May, where my life got super crazy. I'm a teacher, so the end of a school year can be a bear. So many activities, so much stress. AND I started celebrating my birthday way too early. But I figured that letting loose and enjoying food was okay. This is a lifestyle, right? I was a very good girl during the Christmas holiday, so why can't I enjoy myself during my favorite month of the year (May)?

Well, I had a blast. I had a delicious birthday cake. I had wine and Mexican food. I even ate hot, spicy, greasy fried chicken. And it was good. Very good.

But now, I'm having a hard time getting back on track. My intentions are good, but I'm still having too many cheats. Chips here and there. And sweet stuff. This weekend was awful. I don't even want to admit to how out of control I was. But it really reminded me of the "old" Hollie.

So before I start to undo all of my hard work, it's time to get strict for a while. I'm challenging myself again. It's called the "Perfect 10 Challenge." Ten days of strict, disciplined eating and exercise.

1. No sugar/sweets (except fruit)
2. No white flour/potatoes
3. Eat as clean as possible
4. Drink at least 100 oz. of water daily
5. High protein
6. Low carbs (I like to stay under 100g)
7. 3+ miles of walking daily
8. Weights every other day (working on upper body right now)
9. Daily devotional time.
10. No salty snacks!

I need to get back to the basics, and this is how I am going to do it. The habits are already there... I just need to detox from all this junk I've been eating. My goals for the summer are too important to me to mess up now.

This weekend, I was able to go shopping with a giftcard I got for my birthday. I was able to walk out of Gap and Old Navy (two of my favorite stores) with cute sundresses in size XL. This might not seem like a big deal to you, but it's HUGE for me. On Thanksgiving, I had to buy size 26/28W clothes from Lane Bryant because I was busting out of my 24W's. So to be able to go in a "regular" store and get an XL because the XXL's were too big... that was an awesome feeling. I've never in my adult life been able to wear a size L... and that's the NEXT SIZE DOWN!

I can't mess up now. I won't do it. 10 days from now I'll be back on track and moving FORWARD on this journey. Join me!

  1. That's wonderful that you are fitting into an XL in "regular stores". That must feel WONDERFUL to you.

I understand the feeling that you are getting off track and out of healthy control...

We recently moved, and on the weekends I haven't been as "healthy lifestyle chick" as I should be.

I am within fingers grasp of my goal... I would hate to get further and further away from it, because the stress of unpacking and the convenience of (yummy) crud food.

But, I like this 10 day challenge you got going on...
If I started it tonight... that would take me through a weekend, and force my @55 not to be bad.
I like it. I am going to join you on this challenge!

I write on and off about my journey to be healthy... and my weight loss... But, I also rant and rave about other stuff too.

I would love for you to come check me out! And to read your input when I am dealing with my "healthy" issues.

    Happy Monday!

  2. I am guilty of the same thing! I totally went off track. It's hard to get back to healthy eating, but we can do it. Congrats are being able to buy a smaller size.

  3. You read my mind!

I am also going to clean eat for the next two weeks, save for one meal on Saturday (which will still be healthy, but may have to be "flexible").

I just stocked up on fruits and veggies at the store, and plan to make that the mainstay of my eating.

I also bought some gluten free, sugar free, calorie free (more than likely taste free) salad dressing to use sparingly with some chicken and fish I have in the freezer.

I will be blogging about my progress as well!

  5. Great post Hollie!
I think that the healthiest thing we can do for ourselves is be open to recognizing when we've gotten off track, and have the guts to get back on it.
I love the perfect 10 challenge! You're gonna nail it! :-)

  7. I know that feeling of slowly spinning out of control. I am on that very path to possible self destruction right now...

Hopefully one day I will realize that I CANNOT just sit down and eat a handful of chips, no matter what I tell myself, the entire bag will disappear within 20 minutes!

Congrats on being able to walk into a "normal" store and not have to route around for the miniscule plus size department. That happened to me recently (went from a size 22W to a size 14 so far) and that feeling is amazing - even if I second guess myself all the time and keep buying bigger clothing than I need!

Keep up with the great work, and Good Luck with your challenge. i KNOW you can do it!

  11. Congrats on your smaller size! I remember when I was able to buy jeans at a regular store. Now I am trying to get back there since I have slipped up too. I consider it a success if i eat less junk than last week than I am improving. I might try your way. It seems challenging. So far your blog is the only one I have seen that I loved instantly! :)

  13. I totally understand what a landmark event buying an XL is. Lane Bryant was one of my only options a year ago. I'm thrilled with being able to shop in regular stores! I work in a school as well, and I could not believe all the sweets that the PTA brought the last week of school. I didn't use much self control :(

  14. Wonderful post! You wrote there a wonderful post full of valuable info, tips & tricks.

It's great to see some progress in your weight loss program because this really boosts your morale. In your case, you know you're losing weight because you're now fitting in a smaller size but many people lose their hope because they can't see some progress.

I've written a time ago an article about keeping track of your weight loss program so that you can see your progress for yourself.

    it can be found here.

Again, thanks for this great article! Keep up the good work!

  15. Yes it can be difficult to get back on the wagon after you slip off. I am very encouraged by your progress. Keep up the hard work and you will accomplish your goal. Remember time + consistency = results. Bunch up more healthy eating days then poor ones and you'll stay ahead of the game. Now get back on that wagon!!
