Zumba!

Have I ever mentioned on here that I am afraid of do not like group fitness classes? They intimidate me. I always feel like the biggest, most uncoordinated person in the room.

But last night, I tried Zumba... and I loved it! I always wondered what the big deal was, and now I see. There was no pressure to be perfect, and I love to dance. In 52 minutes, I burned 772 calories... so I will definitely be back!

So strength training yesterday... after Zumba I was wiped out. I have a busy day today, so I am actually going to the gym NOW so it will be DONE.  Can you tell I'm still motivated?

Still no sugar, but yesterday there WAS temptation. A couple of weeks ago, I left a bag of my groceries at WalMart. Apparently, the write the items in a book, so that when you come back you get a refund. Well, I came back yesterday and forgot my receipt - which is fine, but you have to get the items instead of the refund. One of the items? Double-stuffed Oreos.

Seriously... I almost left them on the counter. But my kids haven't had a "treat" in a while so I brought them home. I told my oldest to hide them where I couldn't find them. But truthfully... I really don't even want them now. The fruit is really helping with the cravings and withdrawal symptoms.

It's the weekend, so I feel like I need to have a plan (especially since we'll be spending the night away). I am babysitting Jess's (four) boys this weekend, and I have decided to do it at her house instead of mine. She has more room, a swing set, and a pool. I can handle all seven kids at my house, but there is just more to do over there. So here is my plan:

1. Bring plenty of fruit & veggies.
2. Have yogurt and other healthy snacks for the kids.
3. Bring my own bottled water.
4. Offer to make dinner (so I know it will be healthy).

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

  1. LOL Hollie :)
I did Zumba the first time the other week and it damn near nearly killed me. It was super fun though.

Good luck on your weight loss journey :)

P.S if you want some extra help google actaslim as I took that for around 2 months and lost nearly 20 pounds along with exercise.

  2. I love Zumba, too. It's so much fun, you don't think about exercise.

  3. Hahaha! I'm not such a fan of group fitness classes myself. I always feel like the fat girl in the back that can't keep up. Plus the mirrors in those places are never flattering! :)

Great job on staying off sugar! Your plan sounds very tasty. You'll have to let us know how it goes. Have a great weekend!

  4. Zumba... Imagine 20 women, and one 300 pound 6 foot tall scary guy at a mid-week Zumba class. I was moving, not correctly, but moving. And I did not care... OMG, I am scary... Thanks for the read...

  6. I always felt like the big un-co-ordinated oaf at gym classes but this Zoomba thing seems to make people feel less so.
It's great you gave it a try, Hollie!
It sounds like you have a plan in place to take care of your needs this weekend. That's a good start.

  11. Oh I've heard about that but like you I thought I'd be the one falling on my face. Nice to hear it's not as bad as I think.

And well done for staying away from sugar.

  14. That is awesome that you have found a fitness class that is fun for you. I've tried zumba before and its not for me. maybe i had a bad instructor but i'm more of a fan of turbo. that is one great work out that if you haven't tried you should!!

  15. I'm glad you tried it and liked it! I needed to get my health back on track and tried Zumba a year ago.

I'm now a Zumba instructor and loving it! What a journey for someone who didn't like gym class, was a perpetual wallflower, and didn't go to prom because it involved dancing. :) Stick with it – the music and moves get addicting!

  16. Hi there
I have heard a lot about Zumba and want to give it a try. Is it safe for people with knee problems?I have never had knee injuries, but cannot tolerate high impact aerobics like treadmill/running.Is zumba high impact/tough on knees?

  17. I started Zumba about 8 months ago and it is a permanent fixture in my weekly routine. I remember my first class, I was sweating like you would not believe and in places I never though had pores! I was instantly hooked. I love to do it. I notice when newbies (fresh meat) come into the class and I talk to them about their first experience, most seem to be intimidated at first, but the secret that I share with them is to act like no one is looking. This is not a dance class that is going to have a recital in a month or two, so who cares what you look like as long as you are moving and buring calories!

  18. Zumba was the best thing to ever happen to me! I used to hate working out, and nothing seemed to work for me. After one class, I was so out of breath, downing water bottles, but in the end, I saw results and had a blast shaking it!

  21. I love this blog. I am a Zumba instructor and I love that you all throw perfection to the wind and have lots of fun. One of my best friends suggested that I teach Zumba, because I love Salsa. The only thing I knew about Zumba was that my 70 yr old mother loved it, so I tried it....on the Wii, lol. It was a blast, so now I teach it four days a week and can't get enough. I love you Zumbians!

  22. I just started doing Zumba at my school this year and I love it! I wish I had found it sooner! I'm looking to buy a DVD of it now. It's so much better than running on a treadmill!

  25. How is Zumba going? I love group fitness classes and I'm glad to hear that you felt comfortable and enjoyed taking the class. Everyone at one point or another is the "new" student in class, but the fear and anxiety will subside. Keep up the great work!
